Community Family Radio, Mongolia FEBC Radio station

Community family radio WIND-FM 104.5 is one of the most listened local radio stations in Mongolia. In just a few years, WIND has been recognized by the government of Mongolia as one of two high standard professional radio stations. WIND can potentially reach one million inhabitants in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia.
In addition to the local audience reached on FM, radio programs produced in WIND-FM’s Ulaanbaatar studios can reach as many as six million Mongolians living in Outer Mongolia and the Chinese Inner Mongolia via shortwave signal from international radio stations, look for details from www.wbradio.net -website.

The home of WIND-FM burnt down on January 13th, 2003. To replace the building, which was completely destroyed, drawings for a new radio station were prepared free of charge by Christian volunteers in Finland. The new facility was under construction from autumn 2003 until May 2008. Celebration of the inauguration of the new facility was held on May 26th, 2008. The entire radio station construction project is being funded through donations. Finnish volunteers, with the help of local labor and FEBC International staff built it from the ground up.

December 25th is a regular work day in Mongolia. The celebration of Christmas is not part of this predominantly Buddhist culture but the season of Advent does provide a wonderful opportunity for Christians to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.

This year WIND (FEBC Mongolia) will be holding a special program at a State owned drama theater. With a goal to reach those who don't know Christ, WIND FM, Family Radio, is inviting listeners to bring along a family photo to the station and register to attend the December 25th program. During the evening, the audience will see the Christmas story played out and hear the gospel message from a local pastor. A children's choir along with a nationally recognized singers will also share. “25 Happy Families” will be selected by lot to receive gift packages. The evening will also include games and listener testimonies.

Other local radio and TV stations as well as newspapers have been invited to cover the event and numerous local churches have also been invited to display information about their church and have people present to answer questions of interested attenders.

In another activity, A series of drama programs, The Life of Christ, is being aired each day of December on four stations in Ulaanbaatar as well as on three Aimag (state regions) stations. Churches have been enlisted to provide follow-up as listeners respond and literature speaking about a new life in Christ has been distributed to the churches to hand to respondents.

Pray with us that the Holy Spirit will touch the hearts of many with the truth of God's redeeming love through Christ Jesus this Christmas season in Mongolia. Continue to pray for the Wind staff as they faithfully work together to proclaim Christ to this nation.

Larry Podmore writes...The station manager of Wind FM, Bayambaa TUMENOLZII (Byato), shares that during the month, the only time they were off the air was during the four day media blackout during the “State of Emergency” declared by the government in response to the riots that happened during the election. After the lifting of the state of
emergency they focused all their messages on the topic of “Peace is our future” to concentrate on unity and reconciliation and give the people of Ulaanbaatar a direction during this difficult time. Byato said it was first time for them to experience an emergency like this. The situation led them to think about how they should react as a community radio station in today’s society. FEBC-Australia's David Bayliss stayed behind after the dedication and finished some of the crucial installations, reporting...  "We have completed the installation of the new rack as shown here in the photo next to Tomroo. Just to the right of WIND-FM's new rack you can see the TV station's rack of equipment. Yesterday was a big day at the transmitter site for Tomroo and I as we transferred all the current equipment from the TV station's rack into our new rack. There remains some additional work (installing of some new equipment where the blanking panels are now, the rewiring of the room's electrical supply, and the installation of a better grounding system) which will all be completed when I return for my next visit to Mongolia..." Radio Wind FM dedication seremony participantsMonday, May 26th, was a joyful day in the lives of those attending the 7th Anniversary and official dedication of the Wind FM radio building! The event brought together the Family radio staff, many of the Finnish volunteers and Mongolian construction workers, listeners, and friends, as well as many supporters. As Batjargal said in his opening remarks... 'Sixty months we have waited for this. The day is here! A lot of sweat and sleepless nights, but the day is here.' The celebration started with singing worship songs led by a group from the New Life Church. The guests filling the auditorium were deeply moved and it appeared they were joined together in their hearts as one with the idea, "God is good,' as expressed by FEBC vice president Luke Cheng. The WIND FM auditorium was filled with Mongolians and guests from 13 other countries including Australia, Canada, Finland, Indonesia, Philippines, USA, Singapore, Korea, UK, Germany, Norway, and New Zealand.
